Here’s the result of an unusual projectile wound.
Irish-born Private William Ford, Co. K, 8th Ohio Infantry was wounded in the assault on the Sunken Road/Bloody Lane at Antietam on 17 September 1862 “by a ramrod which transfixed the right thigh in the upper third.”
