Surg Willis H. Twiford

41 year old Assistant Surgeon Willis H. Twiford of the 27th Indiana Infantry was with his regiment in Maryland and performed surgeries in the field at Antietam all day on 17 September until 3 am the following morning, and was then ordered to a hospital. His photograph is from Brown’s The Twenty-Seventh Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the War of the Rebellion (1899).
